Bring Your Own Device Pilot Project

Building Responsible INternet Guests is a new and exciting initiative for the entire district.   BRING-IT is our creative spin on “bring your own technology” and refers to students bringing their own technology like smartphones, tablets, and laptops to school for educational use. In the past, we have provided the technology that students would need for the school day. This was done by using funding received through the government (state/local) or by applying for special technology grants.
An advantage for students is that they will be able to use the same computing device at home and in school. This means they would have access to all of digital resources that they were accessing in school at home.
Overall, with insightful planning, written school policies, and a filtered network, our students can bring their own technology devices into the school to utilize them for engaging learning activities.
The decision to allow a student to bring personally-owned technology to school ultimately rests with  parents and students. We realize that not every student owns a device or may choose not to bring personally-owned technology to school. Additionally, there is absolutely no expectation that parents should provide a device to their child, unless they choose to do so. LTSD will continue to invest in technology for our students.
The pilot team will meet through the 2012-13 school year to develop policies and guidelines in an effort to make bring your technology a successful district-wide program.
